California Laws and Regulations Examination Information and Test Sites
On April 1, 2010, the Board began contracting with Psychological Services, LLC (PSI) in order to administer the California Laws and Regulations Exam (CLRE). August 28, 2009 was the last time the National Board of Examiners in Optometry administered the CLRE.
This exam is computer–based and candidates can access PSI's Web site and schedule their exam Monday–Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., on whatever date they choose. There are multiple test sites available state-wide, saving many candidates a trip to a particular state or distant in–state location.
To apply for the exam, you must submit an Application for Licensure as an Optometrist that can be found here with the required fee to receive an invitation in the mail or through e-mail with instructions on how to sign up and a Laws and Regulations Examination Candidate Handbook and Study Guide. The Board is pleased to provide a convenient and accessible way for optometrists to become licensed in California.
